Made in Germany
According to the tight guidelines of the International Association Natural Textile Industry Didymos wraps are produced of hand picked controlled organic cotton from Egypt, Turkey and Peru. The company explicitly does not produce in India.
30 years of experience and commitment made Didymos world market leader with wraps. Read more about how, in 1972, Didymos’ history (and the history of baby carrying in Germany) began.
The cloth is made of two different yarns: twin for the wrap thread and an even yarn for the weft thread. This ensures the longevity and optimal diagonal expansibility.
| Kreuzköper/ Broken twill weave Here, the direction of the diagonal produced by the weft threads is reversed after no more than two passages of the weft. That way, it is very strong and does not loose its tightness, but is yet relatively lightweight. This weaving technique also offers great expansibility. Front- and backside appear the same. Elasticity in both diagonal ways is alike. |
|
| Jacquard The Jacquard weave is very similar to the broken twill, but a bit softer and clearly more elastic. At the end of the 18th century, J.M Jacquard developed this weaving mill, which made a large production possible. Today, this elaborate weaving technique is only used by few companies.
With the Jacquard weave, very beautiful patterns are possible that are reversed on the backside. This way wide-stretched or superfine designs are possible.

Indio
Indio-patterns are a special version of the Jacquard weave. The wrap is especially fleecy because of the partly long yarns. It’s also a bit smoother than a ‘normal’ jacquard wrap.
The pattern is so small that the inverse pattern on the back is hardly observable.

Didymos wraps are shaped as a parallelogram.
This way there is always a bit extra material to tie the knot and the ends fall more narrow.

In instructions you can often read ‘Please, take the wrap in the middle…’. But it’s not easy to find the middle of a 5m wrap.
Naturally, who can measure 2,50m only with one's arms? Therefore, Didymos has put a little tag 'mein Mittelpunkt/ my center' in the middle of each wrap to make tying easier.

When you are ready with tying the tag should be close to your baby's head and this way everyone knows, where your personal center is.
Some patterns have different coloured edges. This makes it easier to find the right edges while wraping. Please have a look at the various models to find those with coloured edges.
We really like the Didymos homepage. You can find a lot of information about yarns and weaving techniques as well as instructions about various types of wraping (with pictures). Especially, we want to recommend the expert-section.

Broken Twill Hoppediz® uses the broken twill weave for their slings since June 2004. This gives optimal stretchability in both diagonal directions. The yarn-dyed, long-piled cotton is twined in both warp and weft. |
Hoppediz® slings are shaped as a parallelogram, so the cloth ends are easier to tie knots with, since they are not so thick and podgy.
ALL Hoppediz® models have differently coloured selvedges (1). This helps finding the edges when pulling tight. The single-coloured slings have colour-coordinated selvedges.
The centre of the cloth is marked in a contrasting colour (2). For many tying methods you need the centre to start with. With sometimes up to 5 meters of cloth length it iwould be quite difficult finding the centre without the marker.
Several of the Hoppediz-models indicate also the longitudinal centre (3). This is very helpful for some tying methods, e.g. simple or double cross-carry.
Eleven tying methods are explained step by step on 60 well-illustrated pages with real photos. The instructions are based on the contents of teaching of the Trageschule® (www.trageschule-dresden.de). Annette and Ingo Schröder, the Hoppediz company owners, are both certified carrying instructors of the Trageschule®, and work closely with the Trageschule®.
Hoppediz® slings are produced in India under socially responsible and environmental-friendly conditions. This way traditional craftwork is supported, and jobs secured. Of course the slings are manufactured without child labor.
