Instead of bottle feeding
Feeding with a cup is a good method to avoid nipple confusion. Especially very young babies (younger than 4-6 weeks) can get confused, when using a bottle, and have problems getting used to the breast again.
The cup offers an approved way of feeding babies with breastmilk, when nursing is not possible, for example when the father has to feed the baby, while the mother is out.
Note
Do not let the milk run into baby's mouth...the baby helps himself!
Tilt the cup gently at the baby's lip and let some drops touch his lip. Keep the cup in this position and let the baby drink at his own pace. Pause as needed.
Please seek advice, when you are unsure how to use the cup. Ask a lactation specialist from the LLL or the AFS.
